Career
Prof. Dr. Mete Düren was born in Istanbul in 1963.
In 1982, he graduated from the German Lycée in Istanbul and pursued his medical studies at Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical School between 1982 - 1988.
In 1988, he started his residency at Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical School, Department of General Surgery, directed by his father, Prof. Dr. Erol Düren, the founder and pioneer of modern endocrine and thyroid surgery in Turkey.
During his residency, he did short-term military service at Gölcük Military Hospital.
In 1993, he became an attending surgeon in the Department of Surgery at I. U. Cerrahpasa Medical School.
In 1995, he went on to complete a research fellowship in endocrine surgery at the University of California, San Francisco Mt. Zion Medical Center, Division of Surgery, under the direction of world renowned endocrine surgeon, Prof. Dr. Orlo Clark.
In 1997, he became Associate Professor of Surgery.
In 2003, he became Professor of Surgery.
He is currently working at Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical School, Division of Endocrine Surgery.
He will act as President of the Turkish Endocrine Surgical Society between 2008 - 2010.
